Coal Seam Gas Inquiry is Underway






A flare at a pilot coal-seam gas well run by Metgasco near Casino. Gas found on the site cannot be sold because Metgasco only has approval for exploration, so the gas is burnt off on site. ()

The parliamentary committee investigating coal-seam gas mining has held the first of its public hearings at Kyogle and Alstonville.

Party MP Robert Brown, says more than 800 written submissions have already been received.
The committee will report on the environmental, economic and social impacts of the industry.
After touring the Metgasco exploration field near Casino, the General Purpose Standing Committee met in Alstonville to hear from 15 key witnesses.
