Farmers Lose Faith in O'Farrell

NSW Farmers appears to have lost confidence in the O’Farrell Government’s promise to achieve a balance between agriculture and mining in the State, saying it will not support the Coalition Government’s policy.

In a NSW Farmers statement of position document leaked to The Land, the State’s peak farming body notes the Government has apparently departed from pre-election commitments on its Strategic Land Use Policy.
 
“NSW Farmers is very concerned that the implementation of the policy does not reflect the agreements made during this period,” the leaked document stated.
 
NSW Farmers president, Fiona Simson, who has been at the forefront of debate as chair of the mining taskforce, is on the government’s recently introduced stakeholder reference group.
But the NSW Farmers document questions whether it is working.
