Qld Moves to Ban Mining on Prime Farmland

ELEANOR HALL: The Queensland Government says farmers will need a soil test costing about $4,000 to prove their land is worth protecting from mining.

The details are contained the Strategic Cropping Land Bill which was introduced into Parliament last night.

It is intended to preserve prime agricultural land, principally from open cut coal mining, but farmers say it doesn't go far enough.

In Brisbane, Matt Wordsworth reports.
