METGASCO, one of the companies with vast gas exploration licenses on the North Coast, used the US experience of "four million gas wells" as an example of how Coal Seam Gas could co-exist with other land users at the NSW Legislative Council's Inquiry into GSG last week.
Metgasco chief executive Peter Henderson told the inquiry that wells had been drilled through aquifers for "hundreds of years" for a range of reasons and the technology was not new.
He noted that the Department of Trade and Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services was not aware of any examples of water contamination due to CSG activities and encouraged people with specific examples to come forward.
He also argued that some of the royalties the company paid would fund infrastructure projects like the upgrade of the Pacific Highwayand the second Grafton bridge or a 24 hour police station in Casino.
