Mining regulator comes under fire

The state's mining regulator has come under fire by the leader of a local community action group.

Community Against Mining's Tracey Anton said a "lot of community anxiety" could have been avoided if it improved transparency and communication skills.

Ms Anton said she had been delivered conflicting information and non-answers by the Department of Primary Industries, with no help from its "non user-friendly website" in her pursuit of information regarding a mining exploration license application on Toongabbie land.
Ms Anton's claims comes after a community consultation session held in Traralgon last week, attended by DPI experts.

She said the meeting had "finally" alleviated local's concerns about the license application, and perceived threats of coal seam gas extraction.
