Arrow Energy's efforts futile: Newman

AAP

Arrow Energy Ltd is wasting its money exploring for coal seam gas (CSG) south of Brisbane because a Liberal National Party government would not let it develop anything it finds, leader Campbell Newman says.

Mr Newman said he warned Arrow last year that its exploration activities in the Scenic Rim Council area were pointless if his party won the election.

He said an LNP government would not withdraw existing exploration permits, because it could expose Queensland to compensation claims.
But he said if Arrow did find CSG resources in the Scenic Rim, an LNP government would not allow them to be developed.

"We've made it very clear we don't agree with coal seam gas or open-cut coal mining in the Scenic Rim Council area," Mr Newman told ABC radio.
