Farmers demand agricultural land strategy

THE Farmers Association has demanded more information about what criteria the government is using to draw up its strategic land use plans.

NSW Treasury is believed to have done cost-benefit analysis modelling on sensitive agricultural land, which is under pressure from extractive industries.

Tensions have arisen between the Liberal and National Coalition partners over which areas should be protected from coal seam gas and coalmining.

‘‘Basically, the Nats are pushing for greater protection from coal seam gas mining than the Libs,’’ a source told the Newcastle Herald.

Two areas of potential conflict include Pokolbin and the Liverpool Plains.
