THE disgraced former NSW resources minister Ian Macdonald is to face a new corruption inquiry into the granting of coal exploration licences.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption said in a statement yesterday that Mr Macdonald is being investigated for allegedly using his ministerial position ''to advantage the private interests of others''.
While the commission has not publicly announced who those ''others'' might be, one of those whose private interests could potentially come under the spotlight is the former Labor powerbroker Eddie Obeid, who resigned from the NSW Parliament last year.
Mr Obeid's family bought a farm in the Bylong Valley near Mount Penny in late 2007, nine months before Mr Macdonald announced an invitation-only tender process for 11 exploration licences.
