Metgasco in trouble for further breaches in CSG wastewater management

19 June 2012

Lock the Gate Alliance is concerned by new revelations about Metgasco’s failure to comply with government regulations in their coal seam gas wastewater management operations.

A government website reveals that in late May the company was issued two Penalty Infringement Notices by the Department of Trade and Investment, Resources and Energy (DTIRIS), for ‘Breach of Title Condition (Reporting) as they ‘did not comply with direction to report water quality and management details.’

The breaches are detailed on the Register for Reporting Enforcement Action in 2012 for non-compliance with the Mining Act 1992 or the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991 available at: http://www.resources.nsw.gov.au/environment/compliance-and-enforcement/dres-register
“These latest compliance breaches are yet another example of Metgasco’s disinterest in complying with the regulations governing the coal seam gas industry in this state,” said Boudicca Cerese, spokesperson for Lock the Gate Alliance Northern Rivers.
