No royalty holiday for coal seam gas producers

The State Government is set to introduce legislation to make sure coal seam gas companies pay royalties from the first day of production.

It has been called the 'royalty holiday' - coal seam gas producers exempt from paying royalties for the first five years of production.

But the holiday is over.

Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner told the National's Conference at Bowral on the weekend that the NSW Government will introduce legislation to ensure CSG extractors pay a royalty from day one of production.

New South Wales Farmers say this is a good step forward in the land use debate.

President Fiona Simson says a commissioner will bring some overdue rigour and independence to the assessment process.
